Structural maintenance, repairing and rehabilitation

The roads are exposed to heavy loads that sooner or later, will leave their marks on them. A time will come in which all roads shall be generally reviewed. However, there are no two damage patterns that are identical.

The tools used by the milling machines in cold in order to remove the layers from the roads were originally developed by the mining industry. The cutting tools called points of attack, mounted in a rotary milling machine drum in the bottom part of the machine, accurately bite on the road at the specified depth. No material is too hard for said tools. The cold milling machines are even able to rehabilitate concrete pavements. Either asphalt or concrete. The material is ground and then directly charged in trucks for being transported from the site, all of it in just one pass.

COLD MILLING

“The cold milling machines are used for fast and efficient removal of asphalt and concrete pavements. When doing so, a uniform base is created, a truly one for the profile which is used for the construction of new thick surface courses with a uniform layer. In addition, the milling of individual pavement layers permits that the material could be recovered in a selective process and separated in the different types of mixture”.

A range of versatile and efficient applications:

  • Different types of milling machines drums may be used, depending on the milling operation for the soil rehabilitation.
  • The milling machines in cold may be equipped with special characteristics for different concrete or rock operations.
  • Steeply slopes of artificial reservoirs with tilt angles of up to 35 degrees may be also milled.
  • Likewise, it may be used for cutting slots and furrows or the construction of ditches for pipelines.

Operation principle of small cold milling machines

Small milling machines are equipped with wheel units and a milling drum located at the rear part of the machine. It also counts with a rotary conveyor at the rear part of the machine, by accepting the granulated asphalt material for the rotator milling machine drum and bi directly discharging it on waiting trucks. For this reason, the small milling machines are also called rear loaders. The compact rear loaders have been designed for being operated by only one man. In addition, they are usually extremely maneuverable machines and its right rear wheel may pivot ahead the milling drum. The engine performance of such machine varies about 40 Kw/55 PS up to approximately 160 kW/220 PS.

Operation principle of big cold milling machines

The big milling machines are designed with a milling drum located in the center of the machine and two-staged transportation system in front loads. The powerful rotary adjustable discharge conveyor in height permits unload big trucks in a flexible and fast manner. The front loaders are usually equipped with an operator platform for going through that offers a high level of comfort to the operator. Alternatively, they are provided with a mobile hydraulically and rotary operator´s cabin. Various intelligent automated functions help the operator for performing his job. The front loaders are equipped with 4 road units hydraulically steerable and adjustable in height. The engine performance in this type of machines varies from about 200 kW /270 PS to about 750 kW/1,000 PS.
